TOBAMEER 1947/1948 | LAKE TOBA 1947/1948

Lake Toba on Sumatra: a landscape constructed by four fragments. Is it possible to get a complete idea about the past when you have to depend on the recollections of others?
Each of these photographs are a fraction in time photographed in two different years; together they are now a reconstructed remembrance. During one of the most turbulent periods in the history of Indonesia, it looks like a peaceful past.

The installation made for the exhibition Between Time -Between Space connects this constructed landscape with the present view on the 'framed' river. Letting the spectator navigate from present to past, from inside to outside and from 'here' to 'there'.

Installation 216 x 344 x 75 cm wood, six trestles, paper, four photographs
